More Vista Woes

Thursday 10th January 2008 by Lee Kelleher

After a week of random “Windows Explorer has stopped working” errors, (where I’m literally just viewing files/folders… nothing to exotic like, oh let’s say, copy-n-pasting!  The bleeder keeps crashing on me!)

Today I return to my laptop from a 10 minute break only to find the login screen. Oh, guess what… Vista just did a forced reboot on me (again)!!!  Happy happy joy joy!  I was only in the middle of some tricky .NET work where I had all my applications left open so I could resume work “seamlessly”.

Now my head hurts from where I smacked it on my desk muttering “WTF! Why…!!!“.  So then I go ahead and rant (blog) about it… causing me to waste more time. Not helping myself here, am I?

Back to work now. (once I’ve checked my Facebook, Flickr and Last.fm ;-) )

Not that I’m offended by the word, but whenever someone calls me “matey” … I get a sudden flash of this in my mind!

Windows Vista’s forced and unwanted reboot

Tuesday 9th October 2007 by Lee Kelleher

Annoying is one word to describe it… Stupid would be another! What am I talking about? Windows Vista’s badly timed and restrictive reboot strategy after every “important” system update.

I have experienced this a few times in the past, where I usually take the option to delay the reboot. However today I was away from my computer (making a cup of tea) - so Vista forced the reboot!

The most annoying issue is that I’m in the middle of some web development, with all sorts of applications open; Firefox, IE7, Photoshop CS2, Notepad++ (with lots of PHP files open), plus a few instances of Windows Explorer. Luckily, I’d saved all my work before I left my computer… but it’s really interrupted my work-flow!! (It took me at least 10 minutes to get the mentioned set-up back).

I mean why is this happening at 11am on a working day?! Why is this happening at all?!

It seem that I’m not the only one experiencing this “feature”:

You are .gif Sometimes you are animated, but usually you just sit there and look pretty.
Which File Extension are You?

Great! Now I’m a GIF! or is that JIF — however you’re meant to bloomin’ pronounce it these day! :-P
